On April 23-24 fifty people joined Gerald Gerbrandt, Professor and President Emeritus of CMU, for this zoom Faith Studies event. Through historical overview and presentations, we examined the tension between Christian denominations as a “scandal” reflecting splits and disunity versus a “coming together” for renewal in response to the stirring of God’s Spirit. Today, denominations occupy the space between the local congregation and the global Christian church. They offer a place of belonging, perspective, and identity while providing a forum for dialogue with others as we seek greater understandings of God’s presence in the world.
