Annual Delegate Sessions 2024

Excitement is growing at Holyrood Mennonite Church as they prepare to host MCA Annual Delegate Sessions, March 15-16, 2024. We look forward to experiencing the richness of Holyrood’s intercultural makeup through worship, music, food and conversation. It will be a little taste of heaven!

Here are a few things to keep in mind as your congregation prepares:

Location: Holyrood Mennonite Church, 9505 - 79 Street NW, Edmonton

Times: Sessions will be held Friday evening (7:30 – 9:00) and Saturday (9:00 – 4:00). This includes worship, business, workshop and round table discussion times, and ample time to connect with partner organizations over coffee and lunch.

Speaker & Theme: Joon Park, interim pastor of Holyrood, will speak on “Breaking Down, Gathering Up: Embarking on a new journey to become an intercultural church” (inspired by Eph 2:13-22, 1:9-10). Joon invites us to our own Ephesians moment, saying, “At this time when everywhere the world is going to pieces and churches are disoriented and disintegrated, revisiting early churches in Ephesus and Antioch provides us new insights into what it means to be a truly intercultural church.”

Accommodation: Billeting is available on a first-come-first-served basis; the deadline for billeting is March 3. Numerous hotels are available in Edmonton, with Four Points Sheraton Edmonton South and the Radisson Hotel and Convention Centre being the closest.

Preparation: The Report Book holds a wealth of information about what has been happening in MCA, across the nationwide church, and with partner organizations over the past year. Links will be sent to churches and it will be available for download from the MCA website (www.mcab.ca) in late February. A zoom meeting to discuss the budget prior to the ADS is being planned; please watch the Communique for information on a date and time for this.

Delegates & Registration: Sending delegates is an important way that congregations participate in the ministries we do together. Each congregation is permitted one delegate per 15 members, or fraction thereof. As you prepare your delegate list, I encourage you to invite delegates that represent your congregation’s diversity. Shoulder-tap people for whom the ADS may be a new experience along with those who know MCA inside and out. Please provide your congregation’s delegate slate to Ruth Bergen Braun by March 6. Registration info can be found on the MCA website (www.mcab.ca).

Guests: Everyone is invited! You do not need to be a delegate to participate, to learn and to join in the fellowship of the MCA community.

Cost: Friday evening is free and everyone is encouraged to attend. The cost for Saturday sessions (including a Liberian noon meal) is $60. Cheques are welcome; for e-transfers, please send your payment to treasurer@mcab.ca. Offerings will be taken to support the ministries we share.

Saturday evening & Sunday morning: Holyrood will be hosting an intercultural hymn sing for those who wish to stay Saturday evening. You are also invited to worship with Holyrood on Sunday morning at 10:30.

I look forward to seeing you in Edmonton!
