Indigenous Relations Opportunities for you! 

Edmonton and area

Wednesday and Thursday,  June 18, 19 is Culture Camp at Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society, 11648 85 Street.  Registration is full, but there is the possibility of volunteering. This would be a great opportunity to work alongside Indigenous people as settler allies and take in some of the camp teachings.  Volunteer registration opens the week of May 26. 

Friday, June 20 is Indigenous People’s Day at the Bent Arrow. 11648 85 Street, Edmonton.    Join in the traditional games, crafts, entertainment, food and vendors.     

Saturday, June 21 Saddle Lake Cree Nation Powwow from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM.   This would be an opportunity to reconnect with some of the Saddle Lake friends from Blue Quills.   Saddle Lake is 2 hours from Edmonton. 

Saturday July 12 Enoch Cree Nation Annual Powwow from 10:00AM -3:00 PM.  Enoch Creek Nation is close to Edmonton  (20-30 minutes)

Wednesday, July 23 Lac St. Anne Annual Pilgrimage 9:00-2:00.    The Sacred Heart Church of the First People’s is hosting mass on Wednesday morning at.   We can also visit the lake which has long been a sacred lake with healing powers.  Lac St. Anne is 1 hour outside of Edmonton. 

Saturday, August 23 Treaty Six signing ceremony,  August 23, Holyrood Community League Grounds.  We will recommit to Treaty principles under the care of an Indigenous Elder, and enjoy Indigenous games and bannock.

June 26 Prairie Chicken Dance World Championship  – Siksika Piiksapi Memorial Arbour

Did you know that the (Prairie) Chicken Dance, which is seen in powwows across Turtle Island, was inspired by a dream and began near Calgary, on the Siksika First Nation? This is celebrated yearly with an international competition. These dancers are the best of the best. 

June 27-29- Siksika Fair powwow, vendors and more. Siksika Piiksapi Memorial Arbour.  Siksika is about 1.5 hours east of Calgary. See website for details.
